When I ask artist friends for advice on
painting..they tell me to paint like I draw!
I wish it were that simple a solution for
me. Not having ever taken a an oil painting
class (it is time to!)...I am experimenting and
these are the results.
Just trying to find my way.

Kelsey wrapped in a sheet.
This reminded me of a Nautilus.

This is from the same afternoon as the oil
sketches. Chuck was able to come for a couple hours.
He is so patient and engaging. We have great
conversations while we work.

Just be diligent and keep playing with it till you figure out what you want to do with it. A new painting book that some criticize but it still has some good information is Classical Painting Techniques by Virgil Elliot. The name and title may be wrong but it is close. Paint dark to light, keeping the dark transparent and building on the light. Lose the outlines maybe? I'm still learning too...always a learning process.

Hey Jack! I will check the book out. Thanks. Anything to get some input. The outlines I hope will disappear as I gravitate away from "trying to paint like I draw"...Trying to keep it fat over lean...and paint dark to light. The only painting class I have had was watercolor and thats a horse of a different color all together. It is a process, you are right about that, but its fun nonetheless...Thanks! Trace

I am a fan of your work and come fairly frequently to view your work. I find it very expressive and one of my favorites is the male nude you posted in September, 08, where you state "This is the way I draw in my heart."

Thank you Ann! Its nice to have those moments that are pure feeling come out on paper..and then to have someone appreciate them with you! Thank you! It helps to know you are out there keeping an eye on my work as it spurs me on. Thank you for taking the time to comment. Tracey

Hi Tracey, I have followed and admired your work for a long time. Your drawings are so extraordinary, I hope you don't feel compelled to paint. Drawing is its own skill and I think your drawings are a powerful end in themselves. Best, Jackie Gittens
